WHAT A HOME BATTERY DOES IN YOUR HOUSE
Stored Power, Ready When The Grid Isn't
A home battery stores electricity from your solar panels, or from the grid, and releases it when you need it. It connects to your electrical panel through an inverter and switches to backup during an outage. Panels alone shut off when the grid goes down, so a battery is what keeps your home powered.
WHY BROOKLINE HOMEOWNERS ADD A BATTERY
Resilience First, With Program Income On Top
Net metering already credits solar exports at retail-based rates, so a Massachusetts battery earns its place through the following.
Essential circuits keep running through a grid outage
Your solar array can keep serving the house while the grid is down
ConnectedSolutions pays $275 per kW of average summer-event contribution
A 0% HEAT Loan can finance a battery, up to $25,000
You can install a battery alone or add it to existing panels
Stored energy lets you plan around peak-demand periods

PREPARED FOR THE NEXT STORM
What Battery Storage Changes for a Brookline Household
Winter storms are a real reason Brookline homeowners look at batteries. A battery covers the loads you can’t do without, such as the refrigerator, lights, internet and a furnace blower. Larger systems can carry more. How long it lasts depends on what you connect, and we size around that list.
Batteries also work in the summer. Mass Save’s ConnectedSolutions program sends a signal to enrolled batteries during peak demand, no more than 60 times a season, for up to three hours each. Mass Save lists a typical 5 kW battery as eligible for up to $1,375 a year.
Since Brookline homes are often compact and older, we plan where the battery goes with care. Location, clearances and panel capacity decide what is practical, and we confirm them on site before quoting.

Frequently Asked Questions
What to Know Before Adding a Battery in Brookline
We believe an informed homeowner makes the best decision. Here are the questions we get asked most, answered honestly.
Do I need solar panels to install a battery?
No. Mass Save’s ConnectedSolutions accepts stand-alone batteries, batteries added to existing solar and batteries installed with new panels. Pairing with solar lets you recharge during an outage, though. We’ll walk through both options.
Which battery brands do you install?
We don’t have a default brand. ConnectedSolutions only pays for systems from its participating-manufacturer list, so we check any battery we recommend against that list before you buy.
How long will a battery run my home in an outage?
For essential loads, typically 12 to 24 hours. The real number depends on battery size, what you connect and winter heating loads. Larger or multiple batteries stretch that time.
How long does installation take?
Hardware installation is usually one day for a battery alone and two to three days for solar and battery together. Permits and Eversource sign-off come first and take longer, so we give you a timeline before work begins.
What incentives are available?
ConnectedSolutions payments and the 0% HEAT Loan are both available. The federal homeowner credit for owned systems ended for work finished after December 31, 2025, so check your tax situation with a professional.
